Christ's Ascension (Analepsis) is one of the twelve Great Feasts of the Orthodox Church: The icon shows the resurrected Christ being carried to heaven by angels in a mandorla, while the Mother of God and the apostles remain in awe and prayer. The icon combines farewell and promise, as well as earth and heaven, in a single image.

The icon is crafted on dark wood and features a characteristic wavy edge and decorative brass nails at the corners. These distinctive features come from a small Greek family workshop that follows the Byzantine tradition and has developed its own artisanal signature with an eye for detail.
